Donation of milk powder to underprivileged in Padawan 22.6.2020

Lions Club of Kuching City Supports the Padawan Community during COVID-19 through Kindness and Service. Now more than ever, the world needs our support, which is why the Lions Club of Kuching City in Kuching is uniting in kindness to do its part to help our community get through this global pandemic.

During this coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis, the Lions Club of Kuching City has helped address the needs of our local community by distributing Anmum Milk Powder, sourced by District 308-A2 District Governor Dr Gan Kean Siong from Fonterra Brands (M) Sdn. Bhd (sponsor) to 110 children aged 1 to 6 years old from 15 villages in Padawan area namely Kampung Sandong, Kampung Sebuak, RPR Landeh, Kampung Tematu, Kampung Lidah Tanah, Kampung Paya Mebi, Kampung Batu Kitang Jaya, Kampung Bumbok, Kampung Haji Baki, Kampung Betong, Kampung Sinar Baru, Kampung Landeh, Kampung Batu Kitang Lama, Kampung Bunga Rampai and Kampung Bukit Pancor.

The event was graced by the presence of Padawan Municipal Council Chairman YB Ir. Lo Khere Chiang. Also present were Penghulu Hajah Sabtuyah, ketua kaum and ketua wanita from the villages. President Roger Ting was accompanied by Region Chairperson Helena Lim, Lion Heng Aik Ban and Lion Patricia Chang.

Lions know that it takes the biggest service club organization in the world to take on the biggest challenges facing the world. Right now, that biggest challenge is keeping our communities safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lions also understand that when everyone works together, we can accomplish so much more than we can alone.

Where there is a need, there is a Lion.

Community Service Project at Kampung Mujat, Serian - Joint project of St Joseph’s Private School Leo Club and Lions Club of Kuching City

President Roger Ting, Leo President Xavier Liao, Faculty Advisor John Yap and Leo Advisor PP Helena Lim (Region 1 Chairperson)made a  2-hour trip to Kampung Mujat, Serian on the 20th June 2020.

Leo President Xavier Liao handed food items to 8 families and used clothing to be distributed to t hose in need. All items were donated by members of the newly formed Leo Club.

President Roger Ting handed Anmum milk powder (sourced by District Governor Dr Gan Kean Siong from Fonterra Brands (M) Sdn. Bhd) to be distributed to 38 children aged between 1 to 6.

Donation to a single parent family 19.6.2020

RC Helena and I went to do a needs analysis on a single mother with 5 children age 3, 5, 6, 8 and 9 at 232A Green Road. Mother is working with an online pastry shop earning an average of RM 900 a month, depending on sales. 2 children are in primary school at RPR Batu Kawa and 2 in a kindergarten. Currently, their grandmother ( also a single mother) is looking after them while she is in between jobs due to MCO. They are staying in a rented room. She is receiving a single mother allowance of RM 300 a month from the government.

Donation of ukuleles to Salvation Army Children's Home 5 June 2020

Lion Dr Chong Pek Lin donated a new violin case to the home as someone has donated a second-hand violin without a case.  PP Sheila Kho donated the four ukuleles.

11 March 2020 - Formation meeting

We welcome our newest addition to our service family. Leo Advisors PDG Tan Soh Har and RC Helena Lim will guide them in their journey as Leos. We look forward to many joint projects together where we can exchange many ideas . 

19 May 2020- Hari Raya project

A pre-Raya “ SYAWAL YANG TERINDAH” visit by Kuching Lions President Roger Ting, Secretary Helena Lim, (Region Chairperson) and Organising Chairperson Past President Sheila Adenan brought much joy to five families living in Kampung Haji Baki, Padawan who each has a story to tell, painted in a thousand words by the numerous pictures taken.

The beneficiaries are the families of Mu Saini, Fatimah Mantali, Ispandie Pardie, Amot Suhaili and Roziah Zaini who received some Raya goodies as well as Duit Raya amounting to RM2,828.15.

Penghulu Hajah Sabtuyah Yusuf, the local co-ordinator who identified the five recipient families and arranged the visit, expressed the joy and happiness of each of family.

A special mention and thank you to Lions Club of Kuching City for its annual contribution, individual club donors Past President Sheila Kho, Past President Datin Juriah Sulehan, Immediate Past President Mary Lu, Past President Caroline Sim, Lion Chung Fui Ling and RC Helena Lim for making a difference in their lives!

2 May 2020- Donation to construction workers during MCO(Covid 19)

MCO that started since 18 March 2020 has brought construction activities to a standstill, depriving construction workers of income. With MCO being extended, many construction workers and their families were forced to endure hunger. Members of Lions Clubs in Kuching embarked on COVID-19 Hunger Project to meet the needs of this group of our community. Lions reached out to families at Jln Depo Construction Site (7 families) & Jln Song Construction Site (13 families). Each family received basic essential foods that included rice, cooking oil, eggs, canned foods, and Anmum milk powder. Organising Chairperson Lion Joseph Tang from LC Kuching Kota Samarahan thanked Lions Club Kuching-Kota Samarahan, Lions Club of Kuching City, McDonald’s Tabuan Jaya, Taka Cake House, and Teguh Binaniaga and individual contribution from David Chan, for their generous contribution to easing the hardship of this group of people in need at this uncertain time.

7 March 2020 - Leadership training for St Teresa's Leo Club

PP Sheila Kho conducted a leadership training for the Leos of St Teresa on the 7th March 2020. After the motivation talk, Leo Advisor PP Sheila Adenan conducted the induction, nomination, election, and orientation for the same group.

8th Feb 2020 Society Kuching Urban Poor (Skup) - Hunger project with Leos from Lodge School

Some members from the Leo club of Lodge School joined City members in the ongoing hunger project at SKUP. Present were Project heads/Leo Advisors, Ln Heng Aik Beng and Lion Patrica Chang.
