Chinese New Year project 18th Jan 2014

Another year has past. Once again, we meet some of the familiar faces at our annual Chinese New Year project where we distribute food ration to 10 under privileged families. This project is an annual project jointly carried out with St Vincent DePaul of the Catholic church, Kuching. This year, the project is jointly sponsored by Leo Club of St Teresa, Leo Club of Lodge School and Lions Club of Kuching City. Besides food ration, the recipients were also given ang pows to ease part of their hardship during this new year. The members who were at the project were President Andrew Tsen, OC PP Dora Lam, PDG Tan Soh Har, PP Ivy Fong, PP Vincent Tan, PP Caroline Sim, Treasurer Lion Kristie Lok, Lion Arlene Tsen, Secretary Lion Jane Ling and PP Sheila Kho. PP Raymond Wee from LC of Kuching Host also came to support.

Free hair cut for residents of Lions Nursing Home 6th Jan 2014



Around 20 residents were treated to a free hair cut by a volunteer, Ms Dianna from Diena Hair Salon, Eastmoore Centre,Kuching. Lion Janet was the coordinator for this project and she also helped in cutting the hair of some of the male residents. The hair cut session started around 9.20 am and ended at 10.45 am. The members who came to support the project were President Andrew Tsen, PP Caroline Sim, PP Ivy Fong, 1st VP Annie Ho, Secretary Jane Ling  and Lion Arlene. Due to the over whelming response , another session will be on the 14th January so that more of the residents would have their hair cut.

A Joint Sight Restoration Project in Bau and Serian by Lions Clubs and SGH, 21st -23rd November 2013















Lions Club of Kuching North, Lions Club of Kuching City and Lions Club of Kuching Stampin-Pending participated in the Cataract Campaign organized by Sarawak Medical Department in Bau Hospital from 21st to 23rd November by restoring the eye sight of thirty two (32) needy cataract patients whose age ranged from 40 to 82 years old. 

The  cataract operations were carried out by Ophthalmologist Dr. Intan Gudom, Dr. Mohamad Aziz and a team of eye specialist personnel (nurses and medical assistant) from Ophthalmology Department of Sarawak General Hospital and Bau Hospital. Our club members who arrived 10.00 am at Bau Hospital to meet the patients and JKNS personnels were President Andrew Tsen, 1VP Irene Tan, 2VP Kimmy Kho, 3VP Annie Ho, PP Ivy Fong, PP Sheila Adenan, ZC Caroline Sim and Lion Arlene








From 2nd -14th December, Dr Intan Gudom and Dr. Mohamad Aziz of Sarawak General Hospital Ophthalmology Department and his team conducted on-going periodic eyes checks to identify related eyes diseases or disorders such as cataract, glaucoma and pterygium at Serian Hospital. Total of 43 cataracts patients and 20 pterygium patients were detected. Patients were screened for financial status where only the needy will be sponsored by Lions Clubs.

Total of 27 needy cataract cases were sponsored through this joint sight restoration project in Serian.

This event and cataract replacement Intra Ocular Lenses (IOL) surgeries were made possible with RM5,000  fund raised by the four Lions Clubs and RM5,000 from Lions Clubs International District 308-A2 Foundation Fund for the purchase of the Intra Ocular Lenses.
