Region 1 - Oscar Night 20th Sept 08

District Governor, BC Sim kicked off the evening with his address. The Oscar night was organised by Region 1 Lions clubs and was a night of fun, laughter, cultural exchange and enlightenment, and not forgetting good music from our cowboys from Bau Club. DC Mike Lim also spoke in his capacity as DC Cultural and Community Activities ( Sarawak) . A number of Leo clubs from around Kuching also participated and it was like a touch of fresh air... we must be getting old.

And what were they doing? Orang Ulu dance? No, they were given free instructions from a Tai Chi master. Cabinet Treasurer Michael seems to know to what he is doing, can't say the same for the rest..,,

Our Leos from SMK Lodge put on a superb fashion show with minimum guidance from the Leo Advisor. Well done,Leos!

Visit to San Domiano Convent Kiulu, Sabah 13th Sept 08

San Domiano Convent is a boarding school for about 130 students whose homes are too far away from any schools. The school is run by Catholic nuns and headed by Sister Frances. This convent is about one hour drive from Kota Kinabalu. Lions Club of KK Downtown donated paint, rice and curtains to the Convent. Upon arrival we were treated to songs and dances by the students. To end the project, the Lions painted the fence.

A Choice

Ready or not, someday it will all come to an end.
There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours or days.
All the things that you have collected, whether treasured or forgotten, will pass to someone else.
Your wealth, fame or temporal power, will shrivel to irrelevance.
It will not matter what you owned or what you were owned.
Your grudges, resentments, frustrations and jealousies will finally disappear.
So, too, your hopes, ambitions, plans and to do list will expire.
The wins and losses which once seemed so important will fade away.
So what will matter?
What will matter is not what you bought, but what you built.
Not what you got, but what you give.
What will matter is not your success, but your significance.
What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage, or sacrifice that enriched, empowered or encouraged others to emulate your example.
What will matter is not your competence but your character.
What will matter is not how many people you knew, but how many will feel a lasting loss when you are gone.
What will matter is how long you will be remembered, by whom and for what.
Living life that matters doesn't happen by accident.
It is not a matter of circumstance but of choice.

Have you choose to live a life that matters?

In Memory of our dear member, the Late Teresa Sim (departed 28th May 2007)

Teresa, a lady of smiles and encouragement,
Humble, for she did not seek to take credit for the numerous charitable work she quietly did,
Considerate for the feelings of others, that she chose to say only the nicest things about everyone,
Sincere, as she supported projects and activities wholehearted and without complaints,
A true leader as she seek to unite and not divide.

Past President Teresa Sim MF (FY 1993/1994)

May you find peace and comfort with the Lord.

We miss you, Teresa!
