Lions Club of Kuching North, Lions Club of Kuching City and
Lions Club of Kuching Stampin-Pending participated in the Cataract Campaign
organized by Sarawak Medical Department in Bau Hospital from 21st to
23rd November by restoring the eye sight of thirty two (32) needy
cataract patients whose age ranged from 40 to 82 years old.
The cataract operations
were carried out by Ophthalmologist Dr. Intan Gudom, Dr. Mohamad Aziz and a team
of eye specialist personnel (nurses and medical assistant) from Ophthalmology
Department of Sarawak General Hospital and Bau Hospital. Our club members who
arrived 10.00 am at Bau Hospital to meet the patients and JKNS personnels were

PP Sheila Adenan, ZC Caroline Sim and Lion Arlene

2nd -14th December, Dr Intan Gudom and Dr. Mohamad Aziz of Sarawak
General Hospital Ophthalmology Department and his team conducted on-going periodic eyes checks to identify related eyes
diseases or disorders such as cataract, glaucoma and pterygium at Serian
Hospital. Total of 43 cataracts patients and 20 pterygium patients were
detected. Patients were screened for financial status where only
the needy will be sponsored by Lions Clubs.
Total of 27 needy cataract cases were sponsored through this joint sight restoration project in Serian.
This event and cataract replacement Intra Ocular Lenses
(IOL) surgeries were made possible with RM5,000 fund raised by the four
Lions Clubs and RM5,000 from Lions Clubs International District 308-A2
Foundation Fund for the purchase of the Intra Ocular Lenses.
