More than one hundred and fifty participants turned up for the 2nd KAA Family Day. It was held in Home of Peace, Jalan Landeh, Padawan. OC PP Sheila Kho welcome everyone and she said she was overwhelmed by the respond by the participants and the many volunteers who came to help. During the course of the family day, many games were played, songs sang and dances danced. It was indeed  "1 Malaysia" as we celebrate our diversity where we see participants from all races taking part  harmoniously. There were a lot of fun and laughter.  Lion Chung Fui Ling donated a 4 kg cake for the participants who are celebrating their birthdays in March. PP Alex donated colouring pencils for the kids's colouring activity while the adults watched a DVD on "Son rise" - autism story.

One of the objectives of the family day was to create awareness for Autism among the Lions and volunteers. Each student from Kuching Autistic Association and their siblings were paired with a volunteer who had to look after their assigned friend for the day. It was an eye opening for most of them. This is the first time for many of them to work with special needs persons ( some of the special needs participants are over 21 years old). With this opportunity to work with these special friends,  we believe that we have created interest , awareness and support  of their needs. Kuching Autistic Association is a NGO and heavily dependent on the support of the public to run their educational centre. Words are not necessary if one's heart has been touched. We hope that we have touched many hearts through this meaningful project.

This project is jointly organised with Lions Club of Kuching Metro.

Club Excellence Process (CEP) workshop 1st March 2015

Fourteen members attended the CEP Pro workshop from 10 am - 5.30 pm at MMS Meeting Room,Kuching. The workshop dealt with the various issues that the club faces and at the same time help them to identify their strength and weaknesses.

SKUP Project 7th Feb

Eight members helped out in the Society Kuching Urban Poor's preparation of food for their 400 urban poor families. During the one hour session, blueberries sandwiches were made, dry food were packed. Two Friends of Lions, Mr Heng and Kelvin Kang were also present to give a hand in the preparation. Lions Club of Kuching City responded to the plight for assistance for this underpriviledged family at 17th mile, Kuching Serian Road.  The family was previously renting one bedroom for RM450.00 which housed the couple and their 6 kids. Their plight caught the attention of Padawan Council Chairman who helped them to get this government 2 bedroom flat. However, whenever it rain, water sipped into the flat making the floor wet. The occupants were then sleeping on the floor.  When Gerald Goh posted  this on his FB, Kuching City decided to donate RM2,000 towards buying the family proper beds and mattresses. The father of the family, Mr Bong is unemployed as he has a heart condition. His wife does odd jobs but is quite occupied with looking after one handicapped adopted child who is 16 years old and their own young children. Their eldest boy who is 15 years old is already working in Miri. Lion Mona gave Ang pow  and PP Vincent donated washing detergent to the family.  Members who attended this project are President Irene, Secretary Jane, Treasurer Caroline, PP Vincent, PP Ivy Fong, PP Sheila Kho, Lion Alice, Lion Mona, Lion Lilian and two of our newest members, Lion Heng and his wife, Lion Patricia.
