Ice breaker

Despite the short notice, more than 90 Lions and Leos from Region 1 clubs came together to do some good deeds on Malaysia Day holiday at the Home of Peace (Home for for the elders). OC Zone 2 Chair Sheila Kho was delighted with the turnout and the co-operation from the many Lions who helped in various tasks or sponsored food and drinks without hesitation. Thank you to PP Ivy Fong for the drinking water, IPP Vincent Tan for the mooncakes and OC Sheila Kho for the prizes. Ten members attended this project. They are President Jessie, Treasurer Kristie, IPP Vincent, 2nd VP Alice, PP Ivy, PP Caroline, PP Teresa Wu, Lion Lilian, Lion Jane and PP Sheila Kho.

The Lions and Leos had an icebreaker to get to know each other at the start of the afternoon. Lion Mike then put them to task, firstly to feel how it is to lose one's sight and then to see how teamwork works by "Moving a mountain". The Lions and Leos  enthusiastically worked in groups, sweating in the rain, getting themselves dirty and feeling contented that they have done something useful. The others who feared the rain busied themselves with cleaning the  window grill and handrails in the Home.

Before we commenced to the buffet dinner, we celebrated the birthdays of all the Lions and Leos whose special day falls in the month of September. Joining them was one of the resident, Fung Nyuk Joon, age 86. They also sang a birthday song for Leo Mah Sii Peng (Teh CP) who has returned to Marudi after his treatment in Sarawak GH,Kuching. His birthday will fall on the 29th Sept 2012. We all wished him a very happy birthday and hope he recovers soon.

After the buffet dinner, the Lions and Leos were entertained and reduced to stitches by games organised by Leo Aaron Chong from SM Lodge and President Chai Jui Loon. PP Ivy Fong, PP Caroline and Lion Alice Kon even performed the Gangnam style dance and OC Sheila Kho showed them how to do the Kuchingwalk-! It was a lot of fun and aim to make the gap between the Lions and Leos closer was achieved. Happy Malaysia Day! One Malaysia!

10,000 steps walk and environmental project 9th Sept 12

Nine members participated in the 10,000 steps walk

Dance aerobic warm up before the walk. " Go, President, Go!"

Recycling (environmental) project resulting from the walk with the bottles and plastic bags
Nine members were amongst the 3,500 participants who took part in the 10,000 steps walk organised by Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia in conjunction with the country's 55th Merdeka celebration. This activity was held simultaneously throughout the whole Malaysia, hoping to get into the Malaysia Book of Records. President Jessie Ho, Secretary Irene Tan, VP Alice Kon and PP Datin Juriah Sulehan finished the walk. The other "punctured" Lions  hitched a ride back after finishing more than half of the seemingly long and endless 9 km walk.  With their conserved energy for not finishing the walk, they instead poured it into recycling the many plastic bottles at the  site. The group with their embedded Lions spirit helped  Matron Foo in sorting all the different plastic containers, ready for pick up by Tze Chi Association for resale. The fund will be used towards the cost for dialysis for the needy.

When the members arrived at the site this morning, we had little idea of what the day would turn out to be. At the close of the function, we did not only do something good for our own health but also help to conserve the environment through the recycling activity which in turn helped the needy dialysis patients. 3 in 1! Kuching City Boleh!!

Thank you to all the members who participated and made a meaningful project out of it:
President Jessie, IPP Vincent, Secretary Irene, 2VP Alice, PP Ivy Fong, PP Datin Juriah, Lion Kimmy, Lion Lilian and PP Sheila Kho.
